I Cantanapoli

A genre of musical entertainment ideal for events involving an international audience and perfect for wedding celebrations. The group performs pieces from the lively Neapolitan repertoire, mingling amongst the audience, involving the spectators, encouraging them to join in by singing choruses and to participate whole heartedly in the show. The musicians perform in costume and with traditional Neopolitan instruments.

The character of the 'posteggiatore', or itinerant musician, is part of the history and culture of Naples. For seven centuries minstrals, musicians and singers have lived between Vesuvius and the sea, often travelling to far away lands, returning with a wealth of memories, but no less poor than on their departure. The origins and development of the Neapolitan song is linked with the street art of these musical nomads, humble and unknown disseminators of poems and melodies many of which survive today. Their art is identified with the golden era of the Neapolitan song.

The Neapolitan minstrels represented a tradition which has an enduring place in the history of the poetic and musical expression of the folk culture of Mediterranean Europe (Mimmo Liguoro - I posteggiatori napoletani).
